Home Inspection New Hyde Park NY: Signs of a past leak are evident

Home Inspection New Hyde Park NY: Tar is the ideal roof sealant as roofing is made of tar and fiberglass, but this amount used here is almost a guarantee that a leak was present in the past.

Skylights generally do not leak when properly installed.

This means that installing one after a roof has already been installed is not the ideal situation, and you should not need this much tar unless a leak was present. Rafters also must be doubled-up, and a double header is also required at the top and bottom of the skylight. I often find this is not the case and this is discovered when looking in the attic.

This is why you need an inspector who has installed skylights when you hire an inspector for your New Hyde Park home inspection.
